Doktorand*innentag 2024 – Fair promovieren
This year's LMU Doktorand*innentag took place around Geschwister-Scholl-Platz from October 8 to 10. More than 300 (prospective) doctoral candidates from the various departments at LMU took part in the 13 thematic sessions on topics such as expectation management and self-care, good scientific practice and AI to exchange ideas, network and gain practical tips for managing their own doctoral journey.
The event was opened by the LMU Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity. Professor Francesca Biagini honoured the passion with which doctoral candidates are committed to their topics. In very personal words, she also appealed to them to take good care of their own resources and individual health.
At the subsequent Meet & Greet, participants had the opportunity to talk directly to representatives of the various services and initiatives for early career candidates at LMU and beyond, including the LMU University Library, the LMU Open Science Center and the OSIS Open Science Initiative in Statistics, the LMU Writing Center and, on behalf of the growing Mental Health First Aid network at LMU, the WeCare at CUP initiative at Faculty 18, the LMU Career Service, the EUGLOH University Alliance, Arbeiterkind e.V. and many more.
This year's evening event sent a strong signal in favour of dealing openly with uncertainties and failures. As part of the GC Salon "Scheitern in der Wissenschaft", seven LMU professors provided an entertaining insight into their personal experiences of failure and their individual strategies for dealing with the inevitable setbacks and risks in academia.
The GraduateCenterLMU would like to take this opportunity to thank the professors Stefan Feuerriegel, Dieter Frey, David Roesner, Armin Selbitschka, Heidi Stöckl, Meike Wagner and Roland Wenzlhuemer for their openness, and Julia Rupprecht for her empathetic moderation.
Thanks also go to our trainers, service partners and initiatives for their commitment and support!
