Philology. Practices of Pre-modern Cultures, Global Perspectives and Future Concepts
Elite Network of Bavaria: International Doctoral Program
The International Doctoral Program "Philology", which focuses on the pre-modern period, aims to examine the history of philological practices in their longue durée over a period of more than four millennia and to explore them exemplarily with the dissertations of the doctoral candidates. The aim of the program is to compare concepts and practices of philological work on a global scale in order to discover intercultural commonalities and differences between various pre-modern written cultures. The program follows the principle of no philology without a literary and cultural studies perspective.
In the sense of a further development of philology, the new technological possibilities in the field of digital humanities will also be used and new research horizons will be opened.
