LMU Travel Grant

 

Doctoral candidates of LMU Munich can apply for the LMU Travel Grant. The grant is provided either for necessary research stays or for active participation in a scientific conference. The trip must be directly related to the doctoral project. Travel grants are awarded in a competitive selection process.

Program objective Financial support for research stays or for active participation in a scientific conference (talk/poster)
Kind of support Travel grant (for travel, accommodation, conference fee etc.)
Target group Doctoral candidates of LMU Munich who do not have any other funding option for their travel expenses
Eligibility Doctoral candidates are entitled to apply, if they
  • hold a university degree (doctoral candidates in medicine: a successfully completed second medical examination (second state examination))
  • are not members of a doctoral program which funds travel expenses
  • are not members of an SFB, cluster of excellence or another kind of collaborative project
  • are not employed (50% or more) at the university or at a non-university research organisation
  • do not have the possibility to receive travel funding within their individual scholarship
Support scale A doctoral candidate can apply for a total of 900 Euro during the course of his*her doctoral project, of which per trip
  • up to 300 Euro for destinations within a radius of up to 750 km (e.g. Germany and neighbouring countries)
  • up to 600 Euro for destinations within a radius of 750-3,000 km (e.g. Europe)

All distances refer to the linear single distance between the two places.

Funding is not available for destinations more than 3,000 km away.

Billing Reimbursement is only possible on presentation of the original receipts and a travel report (1 page). Advance reimbursement is not possible.
Application The application must be submitted via the GraduateCenterLMU Portal. 

Please prepare the following documents:
  • CV
  • Letter of motivation explaining why this trip is necessary for the progress of your doctoral project (max. 1,000 words)
  • Invitation, confirmation of registration, acceptance letter or similar for the planned activity

Your official supervisor needs to supply an academic reference letter (max. 1 page) explaining the purpose of the proposed trip, its importance for the progress of your doctoral project and why the chair/institute/department is unable to fund the trip. The letter must be sent directly to the GraduateCenterLMU by email (graduatecenter@lmu.de).

Important notes:
  • Only complete applications that are submitted in due time will be considered.
  • The reference letter must be received by the GraduateCenterLMU in due time.
  • You will be informed at the latest six weeks after the application deadline whether your application has been approved.
  • Please note that in case of rejection we cannot elaborate on the reasons for the decision.
