LMU Stipends for LERU Doctoral Summer Schools

Since 2010 LMU Munich grants stipends for the annual LERU Doctoral Summer Schools. LERU (League of European Research Universities) is an association of 23 research-intensive universities in Europe.

The Eighth LERU Doctoral Summer School is hosted by the University of Zurich from July 9 to 14, 2017. The theme of the summer school is "Citizen Science - Nexus Between Research and Public Engagement".

Citizen science – the involvement of non-professional scientists in research – is generating broad attention across and beyond the scientific community. In the current digital age, citizen science is experiencing a boom thanks to rapidly developing technologies made available to a wider public. Citizen science is widely seen as a cornerstone of a broader science movement. However, many questions remain unanswered, such as legal, ethical, commercial and privacy issues. The LERU Summer School addresses these and other related issues concerning citizen science and deals with the resulting implications for research and science in general.

Application deadline was March 13, 2017.
