Teaching Skills

GraduateCenterLMU Workshop for Doctoral Candidates

Teaching skills are an important asset of a researcher planning an academic career. Taking into account scientific evidence of the learning sciences, this workshop aims at enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.

Workshop topics:

  • How to define learning objectives
  • How to structure courses – designing a detailed structure plan
  • How to make use of people's learning habits
  • Methods for different teaching formats, course phases and group sizes
  • How to instruct, conduct and evaluate different methods
  • Designing and using visual aids for teaching situations
  • Leading groups and discussions
  • Tasks of a discussion leader
  • Communication techniques

Objectives:

  • Developing more consciousness for the role as lecturer/teacher
  • Basic didactical knowledge for planning and structuring courses/seminars
  • Knowledge of the aims and functions of different teaching methods
  • Ability to design and apply visual aids meaningfully and comprehensibly
  • Application of different communication techniques for leading discussions

Methodology:

  • Interactive teaching dialogue
  • Theoretical input
  • Small-group work
  • Practical exercises (e.g. applying methods, leading discussions)
  • Video feedback

Target group: Doctoral candidates of LMU Munich (the number of participants is limited)
