Fees

There are no tuition fees for doctoral studies. In the event of enrollment however, semester fees for the Munich Student Union (Beiträge für das Studentenwerk) must be paid on a semester basis. These are made up of a basic fee (Grundbeitrag) and an additional fee for the semester ticket (zusätzlicher Beitrag für das Semesterticket).

Funding

For doctoral candidates the university sometimes has individual positions (employment with compulsory social insurance contributions). These are usually associated with a commitment to other tasks. Information on vacancies may be obtained from your supervisor or through the LMU Job Portal.

Another financing option is offered through individual scholarships, which are awarded by institutions or foundations.

If the funds are available, participants of doctoral programs can receive financing (scholarship or employment) through the program.

Some doctoral candidates receive funding through a non-university research organisation (scholarship or employment) or finance their doctoral studies through (non-discipline related) employment outside the university.

The LMU Career Service Job Board provides offers for working student positions and part-time jobs within and outside the university.

The GraduateCenterLMU regularly organizes events on the topics of "Finanzierung der Promotion" and "Stipendienanträge schreiben" (in German). Funding doctoral studies is also the topic of podcast episode number 6 of the Podcast "Diss & Co" (in German).
